মা তাঁর গান-জীবনের অনুপ্রেরণা। মায়ের কাছেই গানের হাতেখড়ি তাঁর।
ঠিক ভাবে গান শিখে গান নিয়ে এগিয়ে যেতে চান তিনি কারণ গান ভালোবেসে গান নবীন রবীন্দ্রসঙ্গীতশিল্পী দেবদত্তা রায়।
তাঁর গান তো শোনাবই আপনাদের, সাথে জানাব তাঁর কিছু কথাও।
মা সুমনা রায়, আকাশবাণীর সঙ্গীতশিল্পী। শ্রদ্ধেয় সুশীল চট্টোপাধ্যায় এবং শ্রী দিলীপ কুমার রায় এর কাছে তিন-কবির গান শিখেছেন এবং এখনও শ্রী আশিষ ভট্টাচার্যের কাছে রবীন্দ্রসঙ্গীত চর্চা করছেন মা।
তাই স্বাভাবিক ভাবেই মায়ের গান শুনে বড় হয়েছেন এবং মায়ের কাছেই গান শিখেছেন তিনি। দেবদত্তা বলেন,
“মা বলেন, গান শিখতে গেলে আগে কান তৈরি করতে হবে।তাই ছোট থেকে কোথাও ভালো অনুষ্ঠান হলেই মা আমাকে সাথে নিয়ে যেতেন। এখনও আমি মায়ের সাথে নানারকম সঙ্গীতানুষ্ঠান শুনতে যাই। পরবর্তীকালে আমি পণ্ডিত কৌশিক ভট্টাচার্যের কাছে শাস্ত্রীয় সঙ্গীত শিখেছি। তারপর বেশ কিছুদিন গান শিখেছি বালিগঞ্জ গীতবিতান এ। এছাড়াও গত ৮ বছর মায়ের কাছে শেখার পাশাপাশি আমি গীতবিতান সঙ্গীত প্রতিষ্ঠানের প্রধান শিক্ষিকা শ্রীমতী রীনা মুখোপাধ্যায়ের কাছে রবীন্দ্র সঙ্গীত শিখছি”

গান তো তিনি গানই, তাছাড়াও রাজ্যস্তরের সাঁতারু তিনি। পরবর্তীকালে কানের সমস্যায় সাঁতার বন্ধ হয়ে গেলেও রবীন্দ্রনাথের গান তাঁর চির সাথী।
কলকাতায় হাতে গোনা কিছু যৌথ পরিবার, তার মধ্যে অন্যতম রায় বাড়ি।
প্রতি বছর নানা রকম সাংগীতিক অনুষ্ঠান আয়োজিত হয় পরিবারের সকলকে নিয়ে।
একাধিক শিল্পীদের আমন্ত্রনও করা হয় সেই অনুষ্ঠানে। তাই সেক্ষেত্রে বাড়ির সংস্কৃতি চর্চাও তাকে অনুপ্রাণিত করেছে গান গাইতে।
পশ্চিমবঙ্গ সরকার আয়োজিত ‘কবিপক্ষ’ থেকে শুরু করে বিভিন্ন মঞ্চ অনুষ্ঠানে সঙ্গীত পরিবেশন করেছেন তিনি। আর গানের পাশাপাশি অনুষ্ঠান সঞ্চালনাতেও কিন্তু তিনি সমান দক্ষ।
কিছুদিন আগেই মুক্তি পেয়েছে তাঁর কণ্ঠে কবিগুরু রচিত “দিবস রজনী আমি যেন কার আশায় আশায়” থাকি গানটি।
দেবদত্তা বলেন, “এটাই আমার প্রথম কাজ।গানটির অপূর্ব সঙ্গীত পরিকল্পনা করেছেন তথাগত সেনগুপ্ত,তাঁকে অসংখ্য ধন্যবাদ এবং ধন্যবাদ এই গানে যুক্ত অন্যান্য কলাকুশলীদের। আগামীদিনে কবিগুরুর বেশ কিছু গান নিয়ে আমার কাজ করার ইচ্ছে আছে। আমার কাছে আমার গান ভালোবাসা তাই আমি মনে করি যে গানটা গাইবার আগে মন দিয়ে শিখতে হবে, কারণ গানের পরিবেশন এমন হওয়া উচিত যেন মানুষ সেই গান অন্তর দিয়ে উপলব্ধি করেন। আমার গান যেন শ্রোতার আশীর্বাদ সঞ্চয় করতে পারে“
